Do You Need a Root Canal?

Don’t let dental problems sneak up on you. Know what to look out for!root canal

Keeping your smile healthy is a top priority for both you and our Lehi, UT, family dentist, Dr. David Gordon. While our goal is to prevent dental problems from happening in the first place, we know that even these good intentions aren’t always enough and sometimes issues happen anyway.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms it is important that you seek immediate dental care from our Lehi dentist to make sure that permanent and irreparable damage doesn’t occur:

Dental Pain

It’s true that there are many reasons why dental pain surfaces. Of course, no matter what is causing your pain it’s important that you get the problem checked out right away since a toothache doesn’t surface without a reason. While a toothache may not necessarily mean that you need root canal treatment it does mean that there is a problem present that needs to be addressed. No matter whether you are dealing with minor or severe pain, or pain when chewing, it’s time to visit us right away.

Tooth Sensitivity

Have you suddenly found that your morning cup of coffee has caused a zinging pain or sensitivity in the tooth? Are you no longer able to enjoy that delicious post-dinner ice cream because the cold is causing sensitivity in your tooth? Tooth sensitivity, particularly to hot or cold, is another sign that perhaps the tooth may require root canal treatment.

A Darkening Tooth

If you’ve also noticed that the tooth that is giving you trouble is also looking darker this is another warning sign that you may require root canal therapy. Why? Even though teeth can become darker due to stains caused by smoking or the foods and drinks we often enjoy, this kind of tooth darkening comes about suddenly because the roots of the tooth have died and turned brown. Once the roots have died the dentin layer of the tooth appears darker, causing permanent tooth darkening.

Along with these dental issues, you may also notice changes to your gums. You may find that the gums surrounding the tooth are swollen, red and tender to the touch. In some cases, a pimple-like growth may also develop on the gums. These are all signs that you need to come into our office right away for treatment.

Don’t ignore any of these symptoms if they happen to you. The sooner you seek treatment the better. A root canal will address the issues and remove pain and other unpleasant symptoms you are experiencing immediately.

Gordan Family Dental in Lehi, UT, is here to provide urgent and efficient dental care whenever you need it most. Don’t let dental pain or other problems ruin your smile. Call us right away!
